The following pictures show porcelain tile that was installed in the basement of a home in Bella Vista Arkansas after the water heater leaked and ruined the carpet, which required a complete tear-out. Tile was the obvious choice. Extending the tile up the wallwas an after-thought. The border along the top was purchased at three different Lowe's stores in NW Arkansas and SE Missouri. No one store had enough pieces to finish. This totally changed the look of the downstairs area, which includes a spare bedroom and full bathroom.
One of the most important parts of tile installation on your floors is the prep work and underlayment. If tile is to be installed on a wood subfloor, the floor specifications must be up to par. A weak subfloor will result in failure of the tile installation. We can reinforce or if necessary replace your subfloor to bring it up to standard. The underlayment is the next important key to a successful installation. A cement-based underlayment can provide a quality installation that will ensure a long-lasting floor. Ditra underlayment is an even better choice because it allows the tile to expand and contract independently from the subfloor. This "uncoupling" from the subfloor is the key to the success of a Ditra installation. For a few dollars more, Ditra is the best choice for a tile floor that will look great for many years to come. Ditra can also be installed over concrete to keep cracks in the slab from being transferred to the tile or grout, thus damaging the installation.

Notice the detail and design I used in joining two different tiles;

This is a bathroom that was completely remodeled. The homeowner did most of the work, but called me to install the 16" marble floor and shower. A layer of Hardibacker underlayment was used as a substrate for the marble floor, and Kerdi was used in the shower. (Check out the shower page for pictures)
The homeowner finished the bathroom with a large (and very heavy) one-piece vanity with a granite top. The tub (even heavier) is a cast iron clawfoot with an antique style valve.
